Privacy Policy
Lumed is a watch collection management app for iOS, with an optional web companion. This policy covers the Lumed iOS app, the marketing website at lumedapp.com, and the web companion at lumed.app. The short version: Lumed collects no personal data. Your collection is stored on your device and, if you are signed in to iCloud, synced privately to your own iCloud account. We use only anonymous, self-hosted, cookie-less analytics to count pageviews and feature usage.
There is one exception, and it only happens when you ask for it: the optional AI Detail-fill feature sends the product link or search text you type to our import server so it can look up the watch. It is described in full in section 4. Nothing else about your collection — no watch records, photos, wear history, or settings — is ever sent to us.
1. Data We Collect
Lumed collects no personal information. The app does not require an account with us and does not track you in any way. The only data that ever reaches a server we operate is what you type into AI Detail-fill, described in section 4.
All data you enter into Lumed — watch details, wear log entries, accuracy measurements, photos, and settings — is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework and a shared app group container accessible only by Lumed and its widget extension.
2. iCloud Sync
If you are signed in to iCloud on your device, Lumed uses Apple's CloudKit framework to sync your collection to your own private iCloud database. This allows your data to stay consistent across your Apple devices and to be restored if you reinstall the app.
- Data syncs to your personal iCloud account, not to any server operated by us.
- We have no access to data stored in your private CloudKit database — only you and Apple do.
- Sync is handled entirely by Apple and is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy and iCloud terms.
- If you sign out of iCloud or disable iCloud for Lumed in iOS Settings, the app continues to work using on-device storage only.
3. Network Access
Beyond iCloud sync, Lumed connects to the internet for two purposes:
- NTP time synchronization — Lumed queries publicly available time servers (e.g.
time.apple.com,time.nist.gov) to display an accurate reference clock and calculate watch drift. No personal data is sent in these requests; they are standard, anonymous time-protocol queries. - AI Detail-fill — only when you tap Auto-fill while adding a watch. See section 4.
No other outbound network connections are made by the app.
4. AI Detail-fill (Chronometer)
AI Detail-fill is an optional feature for Chronometer purchasers. When adding a watch, you can paste a product link or type a brand and model, and Lumed fills in the specifications for you. It runs only when you tap Auto-fill — it is never triggered in the background, and the rest of the app works without it.
When you use it, the app sends the following to our import server:
- The text you typed — the product URL or the brand and model you are searching for.
- A random identifier generated on your device when you first launch Lumed. It is not derived from your name, email, Apple ID, or any device identifier, and it tells us nothing about who you are. It exists so we can confirm the request comes from a Chronometer purchaser and apply a per-user daily limit.
- Your App Store purchase receipt for Chronometer, signed by Apple, which our server verifies to confirm the purchase. It is checked and discarded, never stored.
Our server passes your search text to Anthropic's Claude API, which may perform a web search to find the specifications, and returns the result to your device. Anthropic processes it under their own privacy policy. If a product image is found, your device downloads it directly from the source website.
What we keep: the random identifier, together with a count of how many requests it has made today, so the daily limit can be enforced. If a request is rejected, the identifier is written to our server log. We do not store the text you searched for, the results returned, or any image. Nothing from your collection is sent with the request.
If you never tap Auto-fill, none of this happens, and no data leaves your device for our servers at all.
5. Photos
If you use the Accuracy Tracking feature, Lumed may request access to your camera or photo library to capture or select an image of your watch face. Photos are processed entirely on-device.
Watch photos you add to your collection are stored locally in the app's data container and, if iCloud sync is enabled, are included in the data synced to your own private iCloud database. They are never uploaded to any server operated by us.
6. Analytics & Advertising
The Lumed iOS app contains no analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party tracking of any kind.
The marketing website (lumedapp.com) and the web companion (lumed.app) use Umami, a privacy-respecting analytics tool that we self-host on our own server. Umami:
- Does not use cookies or any persistent client-side identifiers.
- Does not collect personal information, IP addresses (beyond a short-lived hash used only to estimate unique visitors per day), or any data about your watch collection.
- Does not track you across other websites.
- Records only anonymous, aggregated pageviews and feature-usage events (for example: that a user signed in to the web companion, or used the wishlist) so we can understand which features are useful.
- Stores its data on a server we operate. Nothing is shared with Umami's developers or any third party.
There are no advertising SDKs, marketing pixels, or third-party trackers on any Lumed property.
7. Data Import & Export
Lumed lets you export your collection to a .lumedbackup file (a JSON archive of your watches, wear log, accuracy measurements, and photos) and restore from that file at any time. Exports are saved through the standard iOS share sheet — they are never uploaded to us. Imports are read directly from your device's Files app into your local database.
8. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to anyone, and we do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics companies.
The only third party that ever receives anything is Anthropic, which processes AI Detail-fill searches on our behalf as described in section 4. That is limited to the text you type into that one field, and only when you use it.
9. Data Retention & Deletion
App data lives on your device and, if iCloud sync is enabled, in your private iCloud database. You can delete it at any time by removing the app from your iPhone. To also remove the synced copy, you can delete Lumed's data from iCloud in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage. We hold no copy of your collection, because we never receive it.
The one thing we do hold is the random AI Detail-fill identifier and its daily request count, described in section 4. Request counts reset daily. Because that identifier is not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID, we cannot look you up by it — but if you would like it cleared, email us and we will remove it. Deleting and reinstalling the app also generates a new one, abandoning the old.
10. Children's Privacy
Lumed does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app collects no personal information from users of any age — the only data it transmits is what you deliberately type into AI Detail-fill — so it poses no additional risk to younger users beyond standard App Store age guidelines.
11. Changes to This Policy
If we update this policy, the revised version will be posted at this URL with an updated date. We will not notify users of changes via the app because no contact information is held.
